    The objective was to develop a brand identity for a new popcorn range entering the snack food market. Firstly, the challenge was to break away from the traditional association with film and theatre, and shift the market to target children between the ages of six and thirteen years old. Secondly, the new name and brand identity had to be developed in such a way in order to create the perception that the brand was already well established in the market.

     

    During our research of this popular movie snack, we've discovered that popcorn had actually been acknowledged for thousands of years. Archaeologists discovered that the evidence of popcorn’s existence throughout Central and South America (particularly Peru, Guatemala, and Mexico), was rampant. Aztec Indians used popcorn not only for consumption, but also for clothing decoration, as well as other ceremonial embellishments.

     

    Our solution was to use one of these countries of origin,Mexico, as inspiration for the development of the brand name and identity. By means of character design, illustration and a story telling approach, we created interest and consideration influencing the target market's preference with regards to snacks.

The logo design was inspired by Mexican culture, patterns and illustrations, using bright colours and detailed designs in order to create a striking and an authentic identity.

A free gaming app was proposed to the client to further promote brand awareness, engagement and a positive experience among children, instead of creating a one-way communication channel through typical brand touch points.
